Endorsement

The Grand Canyon, Evolution, and Intelligent Design is the most logical, readable, and convincing treatment of this tangle of issues that I in my long life have read. I can only hope that your irenic, scientifically praiseworthy discussion will serve to correct the many unbalanced arguments put forth by both biblical and anti-theistic authors. I will recommend your work whenever I have opportunity to do so.

On page 134 in your book, you claim that uranium dating can be confirmed by potassium-argon dating. But I understand that both methodologies are inaccurate. In his book, Scientific Creationism, Dr. Henry Morris cited an instance where geologists used the potassium argon method to date volcanic rocks on the island of Hawaii. Potassium argon tests resulted in a date of millions of years. But the volcanic rocks were known to be produced in an 1801 eruption. How then, can you conclude that either method is reliable?

Dean Anonymous, thanks for your comment. Good, kindly Dr. Morris found a date in his reading which he believed shattered radioactive dating. Two other dates of the lava were equally "misplaced." Yet many other tests of the lava in different spots were consistent with the 1801 eruption. The expla- nation is that some of the lava, as it flowed on its way up, picked up old rocks from the margins of the lava tube. These old rocks, in-corporated with the new lava, hap-pened in some instances to be the parts tested and providing old dates. -- R. S. Beal, Jr.

Oops. In my computer ignorance, I hyphenated words that when transferred left the hyphens in the wrong places.
